GAME OF THE MONTH
Throughout each round of Citadels, players take on new roles to represent characters in order to help them acquire gold and construct buildings. The game comes to an end when a player has completed his/her eighth building. Players then tally their points and the player with the highest score wins. The round starts with the players being provided with a number of building cards in their hands. The buildings come in five different colors. The purple buildings have a special ability where as the other colors provide benefit for particular characters. At the start of the round, the player who was previously king discards one of the eight character cards at random, chooses one and then passes the cards to the next player. This is done until each player has secretly chosen a character. Each character has a special ability and depending on your situation and your opponents, your character will either be useful or not.
The characters then carry out their actions in a numerical order: the assassin eliminating another character for the round, the thief stealing all the gold from another character, wizard swapping building cards with another player, the warlord optionally destroys a building in play, and so on.
On a turn, a player can earn two or more gold or draws two building cards and discards one. Optionally the player can construct one building or up to three if playing the architect. Each buildings is worth a certain number of points and cost gold equal to the number of symbols on them. On top of this, at the end of the game a player will score bonus points for having eight buildings or buildings of all five colours.
